More Then A Movement

(BY:TITU$ BANK$)

My THOUGHTS shifting,
Like the HANDS on the clock TICKING.
I’m still FACED wit split DECISIONS.
That’s CRITICAL in its on DEFINITION.
BLACK politicians in higher POSITIONS
still bullshitting,so Mr.President LISTENING.

I ASPIRE to be MORE then a
corvid 19 SURVIVOR.
SHOTS fired another BLACK MAN down.
A massive CROWD begins to RIOT
and GATHER around.
The YOUTH shouting BURN this muthaf*$ka DOWN.
His HEART no longer BEATS just a SILENT sound.

FLOWERS placed on TOP of BLOOD stains
that REMAIN on the GROUND.
The CHOIR Singing the same old NEGRO spiritual,
but its a different TOWN.
A different TIME,yet the same United state of MIND
and it seems,as if the HANDS of TIME
has been STUCK on REWIND.

PROTESTORS marching HOLDING signs,
I CAN’T BREATHE, HANDS UP,SAY THEIR NAMES,
as HISTORY repeats ITSELF and so does our
STRUGGLES and PAIN.
While we SEARCH and PRAY for SOCIAL IMPROVEMENT,
because we face DEATH
or JAIL before we have a CHANCE to LIVE
and this is MORE than a MOVEMENT.

Our facility is currently under quarantine, because there has been over a 100 positive cases. The administration dropped the ball and put the lives of prisoners as well as their staff in danger. When they began to move people, who where in contact with prisoners that were carrying the Corvid-19 virus.

Instead of shutting down and quarantining the units they continued to allow them around the rest of the prison population. We continued to have chow, yards, library, and other situations to come in contact with those, who were in contact with the carriers of the Corvid-19 virus.

As a result, the infection has began to rapidly spread across the compound. We continued to have chow, yards, library, and other situations to come in contact with them. There have been massive ride outs, but others like myself are fearful of contracting this deadly virus.

Our first test results were in May came back negative (The Whole Facility) now there is a outbreak, so we’re waiting for our test results for this month.Today M.C.F.(Muskegon Correctional Facility) began to prescribe the facility with 30 multi-vitamins tablets.
“WE WERE NOT SENTENCED TO DIE.”

Who is the real killer?

Covid-19 attacked the MDOC’s inmates in early March. But it wasn’t Covid that attacked the inmates, it was callous staff members who arrived to work everyday knowing full and well that there’s a deadly pandemic ravaging the State, and with staff being more accessible to the virus you’d think that they’d be more considerate of the fact that they have the potential of bringing the deadly virus inside the prison. How can inmates escape that? That’s the million dollar question. There’s no escaping. Social distancing is not applicable in prison when you have selfish people who are motivated by a check, but are not required to be checked; unless done so voluntarily. What sense does that make! Inmates cannot bring the virus in. And we can’t blame this on visitation either, because visits were terminated approximately six months ago, and most recently the virus had ceased spreading. According to MDOC’s testing, results, and reports during the week of 07/17/20, then the following week of 07/25/20 there were no positive cases within the entire MDOC. On [07/23/20] it was reported that 10 staff members tested positive for the Covid-19 virus; no inmates though. Then on 07/30/20 ten inmates somehow showed up positive for the virus and it’s re-flaring. Now keep in mind that visits ceased six months ago. Now you do the math. Who’s endangering who? I’m not saying that all staff had malicious intent, but when you have no regard for human life and choose to come to work everyday knowing that you’re sick or may have been in contact with the virus, what kind of intent is that? We were punished because of someone else’s doing. Having to be locked down, placed in isolation, property destroyed, and most importantly being subjected to having to contract and God Willing suppress this deadly virus with no immediate or long term complications.

I was positive in April but the actual test results came in May. It was the scariest days of my life. I grew up in the middle of Detroit in a small city called Highland Park and it wasn’t at all a park. I’ve seen and did things that I’m not proud of. Guns drawn and pointed in my face some went off some didn’t. I was sentenced to Natural life for murder. Still those things didn’t compare to my Covid-19 experiences. Waking up with a gold glow over my body and vibration lines radiating from the gold glow–I was hallucinating from me not having enough oxygen to my brain. 1:47 a.m. I got up and told myself over and over: I’m not going to die in prison. The glow and vibration lines disappeared once I got out the bunk and walked around the unit getting my breathing under control. I once didn’t go back to sleep because I scared I was going to die. I fought it for as long as I could. I lost my taste, smell, continuous bowel movement, lost of appetite, cold chills, dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath.

We lost a couple guys at this facility one in particular I use to converse with on the regular. His name was Sanders-Bey. By him being an elder I was always on his back about exercising but he would never go, so I would playfully bust him upside the head and take off running to try and get him to chase me. It worked a couple of times but as time went on he would just curse me out and say, “you’ll be my age one day”. We lost that brother to Covid -19. I can’t believe that he’s actually gone.

We are trapped inside a cesspool full of sick individuals. We can’t determine if we’re going to live or die because of another persons greed or ignorance. Our lives are basically in someone else’s hand, and that hand may be the hand that writes you direct order citation, or put handcuffs on you escorting you to segregation, or aiming a taser at you, or the hand that shakes you down passing you the Covid-19 Virus. As you can see none of these were helping hands.

We committed crimes, some more heinous than others, but that doesn’t negate the fact that we have a right to be treated humanly and in most cases deserve a chance to live and make it home to our love ones. I say most and not all because I’m speaking realistically. The truth is there are beautiful people incarcerated behind these walls, but you also have the evil lurking inside as well.

These are the things that needs to be addressed to society. In prison, is it Covid that’s killing and harming us, or is it the s#@$$?

“A New Look”

UNFORTUNATELY IT’S THE NORM IN THE PRISON ENVIRONMENT TO SEE HOPELESSNESS, UNCERTAINTY, AND DESPAIR LURKING IN THE EYES OF MANY MEN. AS MONTHS TURN TO YEARS AND YEARS TURN TO DECADES THAT LOOK BECOMES HARD AND CALLOUSED AS ETCHED IN STONE. WHAT SHOULD BE A FRIGHTENING SIGHT TO SEE, HAS SADLY TURNED TO ACCEPTANCE. DOOM AND GLOOM IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY IN A PLACE WHERE THE BRIGHT SPOT FOR SOME IS A PIECE OF BAKED CHICKEN ACCOMPANIED BY A CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE FOR DESERT. IT’S THEN YOU MAY SEE A SLIGHT GLIMMER OF HOPE RESIDING DEEP WITHIN.

THROUGHOUT 27 YEARS OF INCARCERATION I’VE SEEN JUST ABOUT EVERY LOOK ONE COULD IMAGINE; FROM THE TOUGHEST MEANEST GUY TO THE MOST MILD MANNERED AND RESERVED. THERE’S A VARIETY OF LOOKS AND GAZES IN WHICH RACE, AGE, YOUR CRIME AND MASCULINITY CAN’T SEPARATE.
THERE’S THE PRECIOUS LOOK IN A MAN’S EYES WHEN HE RETURNS FROM A VISIT SEEING HIS LOVED ONES. THAT’S THE BRIGHTEST LOOK YOU’LL EVER SEE. HIS EYES SHINE LIKE THE HIGH BEAMS ON A CAR TRAVELLING DOWN A DARK ROAD.
THE WEIGHT OF HIS PRISON SENTENCE THAT DWELLS DAILY IN HIS EYES LIKE A SQUATTER IN AN ABANDONED HOUSE IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED WHILE HE BASKS IN THE TIME SPENT WITH HIS CHERISHED LOVED ONES.

THE NERVOUS LOOK A MAN HARBORS THE MORNING HE’S SCHEDULED TO BE INTERVIEWED BY THE PAROLE BOARD. DESPITE HAVING SERVED HIS TIME, COMPLETED ALL NECESSARY RECOMMENDATIONS, AND HAS REDEEMED HIMSELF, HIS EYES ARE STILL FILLED WITH WORRY KNOWING HIS FATE HANGS IN THE BALANCE FROM THAT HORRIBLE DECISION HE MADE YEARS; EVEN DECADES AGO.

THE BLANK GLAZED LOOK THAT OVERTAKES A MAN’S EYES AFTER HE’S PUT BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS INTO HIS APPEAL SPENDING COUNTLESS HOURS IN THE LIBRARY POURING OVER CASE AFTER CASE, TWEEKING IT NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE FINALLY FILING IT WITH THE COURTS; ONLY TO GET DENIED IN RECORD TIME WITH A FLIMSY EXCUSE THAT HOLDS NO WEIGHT BUT CALLED JUST AND FAIR. IT STINGS AND FEELS LIKE A SLAP IN THE FACE AFTER ALL THAT HARD WORK.

THEN THERE’S THE GHASTLY AND SULLEN LOOK I’VE EXPERIENCED SEEING IT MORE TIMES THAN ANY ONE PERSON SHOULD IN A LIFETIME.

THIS LOOK IS PAINFUL ADDING A HEAVINESS TO MY HEART THAT’S BEYOND MOURNFUL. IT’S THE CRUSHING LOOK IN A MAN’S EYES WHEN HE’S LOST A PARENT, CHILD, OR SIBLING TO THE ENEMY DEATH.
THERE ARE NO WORDS TO UTTER TO A MAN WHEN YOU WITNESS THIS LOOK IN HIS EYES. ALL OF A SUDDEN THIS SAME PERSON YOU WALKED THE YARD WITH, EXERCISED WITH, ATE CHOW WITH, EVEN SHARED A CELL WITH…NO LONGER LOOKS THE SAME. HE DOESN’T LOOK AT YOU; HE LOOKS THROUGH YOU LIKE YOUR NOT EVEN THERE. YOU UNDERSTAND BECAUSE YOU’VE BEEN THERE BEFORE. I NEVER IMAGINED THERE COULD BE A MORE DAMAGING AND SOUL STIRRING COUNTEANCE IN A MAN’S EYES WITHIN THESE PRISON WALLS. WHAT COULD PUT SUCH A LOOK IN A MAN’S EYES CAUSING HIM TO ROAM THE PRISON YARD AIMLESSLY WITH HIS GUARD DOWN IN A PLACE WHERE VULNERABILITY IS PREYED UPON? WHAT COULD POSSIBLY CREATE A LOOK THAT’S DIFFICULT TO PUT INTO WORDS NEVER BEFORE WITNESSED?

ENTER CORONAVIRUS, AKA COVID-19. HE SLYLY APPEARED ON THE SCENE PLACING FEAR IN HEARTS, TERROR IN EYES, TREMBLING IN VOICES; RUNNING AMUK, UNNERVED BY THE HEINOUS CRIMES COMMITTED BY THE MEN HE NOW RULES OVER TAUNTING THEM WITH HIS MENACING PRESENCE. HE HAS BECOME THE “ROCK BOSS” DEMANDING OUR TIME, ENERGY, AND UNDIVIDED ATTENTION WITH AN “I COULD CARE LESS” DISPOSITION TOWARDS ANYTHING YOU HAD GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE; RULING WITH AN IRON FIST AND WRECKING HAVOC.
“I’M HERE GET USE TO IT,” HE EERILY WHISPERS WHILE ROAMING FROM PERSON TO PERSON; UNSEEN, UNNOTICED, CASUALLY INFECTING EACH MAN DIFFERENTLY.

A NEW LOOK NOW DOMINATES OUR EYES IN THE TRAGIC FORM OF TRAUMA, STRUGGLE, DEPRESSION, AND EXHAUSTION, ALL BIRTHED BY THE CORONAVIRUS THAT HAS INVADED THE PRISON POPULATION.
